Spider solitaire tips
Every deal in Calm Spider can be won, but good habits make it quicker and more relaxing. Here are the ideas that help most.
1. Turn over hidden cards first
Face-down cards are what hold you back. When you have a choice between moves, pick the one that turns over a hidden card, and pay special attention to the columns with the most hidden cards.
2. Build in the same suit when you can
In 2-suit games, a heart on a spade is allowed, but that pair cannot move together later. If you can put a card on the same-suit card instead, do that. Mixed stacks are fine as a stopgap, but tidy them up when you get the chance.
3. Treat an empty column like gold
An empty column is the most useful space on the table. Use it to break up a mixed stack, to reach a hidden card, or to hold a card for a moment while you rearrange. Try not to park a single low card there for good.
4. Move the highest cards into empty columns
If you have to fill an empty column for a while, a King or a long run starting with a high card is the best choice — nothing can ever sit above a King, so it will not block anything.
5. Make every move before you deal
Dealing adds a card to every column and can cover the cards you were working on. Before tapping the deck, look for any move that turns over a card or joins two same-suit runs. Then fill empty columns, and deal.
6. Don't break a good run without a reason
A long same-suit run is progress. Split it only when doing so lets you turn over a card or finish a full King-to-Ace run.
7. Start with 1 suit
1 suit lets you learn the flow of the game without worrying about colors. Once you win a few, 2 suits is a pleasant step up.
8. Use Undo and Hint without guilt
There is no penalty for trying an idea and taking it back. If you feel stuck, tap Hint, or open the menu and choose Go back to a winnable point.
