Word search tips
There is no wrong way to do a word search, but a few habits make the hunt quicker and more fun.
1. Start with unusual letters
Letters like Q, Z, X, J, K and W do not appear often. If a word contains one, look for that letter first — there will be only a few places to check.
2. Look for a pair, not a single letter
Searching for the first two letters together, such as "BR" for BREEZE, rules out most places quickly. Double letters like "OO" or "LL" stand out especially well.
3. Scan in a pattern
Move your eyes along one row at a time, then one column at a time. A steady pattern means you will not miss a spot or check the same place twice.
4. Find the long words first
Long words are easier to spot and take up space. Once they are marked, the shorter words stand out among the letters that are left.
5. Remember the directions
On Easy, words only go right or down, so you only need to look in two directions. On Medium, also check the slants.
6. Say the word to yourself
Keeping the word in mind as you scan helps your eyes recognize it. Some people like to trace the grid slowly with a finger.
7. Take a break and come back
If a word will not appear, look away for a moment. Fresh eyes often spot it right away. Your puzzle is saved, so you can return later.
8. Use a hint when you want one
A hint circles just the first letter, so you still get the pleasure of finding the rest of the word yourself. Try to find the whole word before asking for another.
